Prehistoric sculpture and cave art suggests that art forms have been an important means of emotional expression, ideas sharing and communication since the evolution of mankind.
Viewing art offers us a wonderful way to step out of our day-to-day life and step into another world. As individuals we all see something different in a piece of art and appreciate different aspects. We are drawn to different types of art and have a plethora to choose from. There’s the dreamy brushstrokes of Monet through to the staccato lines of Kandinsky. Whilst one person will be drawn into a piece and declare it their favourite art ever, another person might see it as truly hideous and step away from it with haste. Fascinating conversations can grow from these differing view points and we can dive deeper and explore ourselves and what is important to us when we open up to art.
In todays fast paced life and heavy focus on the digital world, a leisurely stroll around an art gallery offers us an almost ‘other worldly’ experience. Perhaps it is the much needed opportunity for contemplation, escapism and peace that draws us there.
Our homes offer us all the opportunity to curate our own carefully selected art pieces and bring a touch of magic to our living environments. We can display them for our own and our guests pleasure. The art in our home communicates our unique taste and brings the escapism of the gallery into our living environment to be enjoyed on an ongoing basis. We can choose prints or original pieces and select frames to compliment our decor. Our choices are limitless.
It is noted that art can have a positive effect on our mental health. I’ll be exploring this further in my next blog.
